IS TONER IMPORTANT IN THE SKIN CARE ROUTINE?

It depends.  

 

Generally most toners out there carry 2 functions:

• Removes any remnants of oil or impurities that were not cleansed thoroughly during the cleansing stage. 
• Exfoliating effect - removing dead skin cells. 

AHA TONER CAN BE A GREAT CONTRIBUTOR TO CLEAN GLOWING SKIN

One of the most common types of toner  is the AHA toner. 

 The main function of AHA is to exfoliate the skin without scrubbing it manually. 

It is a gentler way to remove dead skin cells and oils on the surface of your skin. 

With the right usage, it is very helpful in achieving clean and glowing skin.

A very well balanced toner for exfoliation and hydration. 

These are our star ingredients and their benefits for your skin:

• Glycolic Acid (from cane sugar)- AHA
• Has the smallest molecules versus the other AHAs, enabling it to penetrate the upper layers of skin more effectively. 
• Dissolves the “cement” between the dead skin cells and removes them without the need for scrubbing. 
• Renewing your skin, promoting youthful looking skin. 
• Often used to target acne and hyperpigmentation as well, leaving brighter looking skin
• Makes up 0.5% in our formulation - making it suitable for everyday use. You get to enjoy the benefits while keeping the harshness of exfoliation at bay. 

• Glycerin & Sodium Lactate  - Humectants
• Hydrates and locks in moisture primarily

ONLY EDUCATED USE OF AHA WILL LEAD TO CLEAN GLOWING SKIN:

AHA’s basic function is to peel and strip away. Too much of it yields opposite effects - it weakens  your skin’s natural barrier rather than strengthens it.  

So when using an exfoliator, please consider these factors:

• The amount of AHA content
• In the EU, the permissible amount is 10%. That is already too strong for your skin and should not be an everyday use product. 
• Even 5-7% is harsh and cannot be use everyday
• Pause Juniper Berry AHA toner contains 0.5% Glycolic Acid. It is gentle enough for everyday use. It is better to use a gentle product daily than a harsh one weekly. 

• Frequency of use
• While Pause Juniper Berry AHA toner is suitable for daily use, you do need to observe the condition of your skin and lifestyle. 
• Start with 2-3 times a week and gauge if this is the right amount of exfoliation your skin needs. If it needs less, reduce to weekly. If it can take more, then increase it to 4-5 days a week. 

• When to use
• At night
• After exfoliating, your new skin layer is still young and the best thing is not to expose it to UV rays or sunlight. 
• Hence, the best time to use an AHA toner is at night, where you are not likely to be exposed to strong UV after that. 

• Combination with other types of exfoliating product 
• If you are also using other forms of exfoliator such as scrubs or facial brush, or your cleansers/ essence/ serum contains exfoliating agents, then in totality you could still be over-exfoliating. 
• You will need to adjust the frequency / rotation of your various scrub / exfoliating products.  

Observe how your skin feels and look after each use. 

Decrease usage if you observed the following:

• Skin becomes very tight/ dry/ flaky
• Skin becomes red or more unstable and sensitive
• More acne outbreak than usual

*Patch test - use the product on a small area of your skin - usually behind your ears, just under your jaws. 

HOW TO USE:

1. Cleanse your face
2. A dime size onto your cotton pad (the softest you can find) and gently apply over your face. 
3. Put more emphasis on areas where pores tend to clog

To be used in your NIGHT routine. 

Start 2-3 times a week and then adjust the frequency up or down, depending on your skin’s needs for exfoliation.
